Dog Friendly Acadia National Park

I’m a traveling pet photographer and most recently my BARKography on Tour travels took me to dog friendly Acadia National Park photographing two german shorthaired pointers.

The Maine coast is beautiful, Bar Harbor is cute and the entire area is very dog friendly.

I got to spend my time there with Sandy McCarthy Photography and her gorgeous Australian Shepherd Tuckerman while I was in Maine. Sandy and I met in 2016 at a dog photography workshop in Spain and we’ve stayed in touch. This is the 3rd time I’ve seen her since 2016.

I still need to edit Tuckerman’s photos as I was only home for 10 days before I left again on another adventure. More on that soon but stay tuned for Tuckerman but she’s in the blog circle so you’re going to get to see him and that is such a treat.

A client reached out to me who lives in Virginia but frequently travels to Acadia National Park with her two german shorthaired pointers. She wanted me to photograph her dogs in Maine.

So we picked a date and off I went.

We met for two photo shoots, one evening and one early morning.

This is what I wish I’d done with my first dog Sloan. She would’ve loved these types of road trips.

Making this dream come true for Michelle was special for me too.

We were graced with beautiful weather but we didn’t have the ideal conditions I like to shoot in.

When we were on the rocks photographing the ocean in the background, the skies were bright and sunny.

When we did the beach photos, a thick layer of clouds rolled in. As a photographer doing on location shoots when I travel, I have to take whatever the weather gives me and again, I’m glad it wasn’t raining!

The two dogs are Beau and Ellie. I love this breed and I was really excited to meet them. I have some great photos of Ellie that I can post on my Instagram page for #wontlookwednesday. She wasn’t a fan of my camera and Beau needed some reassurance that he was okay too.

I am 100% certain that Beau and Ellie preferred the beach photo shoot. They ran around and got to be dogs. I learned that Beau likes to be chased by Ellie and that Beau is faster than her. It all played out in front of my camera and me.

Acadia National Park is beautiful and really dog friendly. Luckily on this particular Friday morning at sunrise, no one else was on the beach so we did let the dogs off leash for a short period of time.

If you love to travel with your dog, I highly recommend going there! I’d love to go back too.
