This Traveling Dog Photographer goes to Iceland
It’s no secret that I love dogs, photography, and traveling. So when two of my favorite dog photographers in the world, Craig Turner-Bullock and Charlotte Reeves announce they’re hosting a workshop with Alicja Zmyslowska in Iceland, I apply to see if I can get in.
I was accepted and so was my traveling dog photographer friend Audrey Cox of Sunsets Unleashed.
Audrey and I met in 2016 at another dog photography workshop Barcelona in Spain. We hit it off and over the years have become great friends.
Since then, we traveled together numerous times to photograph dogs in California, Oregon, Washington, New York, and Vancouver British Columbia in Canada.
Our traveling sessions are called “on Tour” so I’m BARKography on Tour and she’s Sunsets Unleashed on Tour. We’ve even traveled to the same locations multiple times and now have repeat clients in Seattle and Vancouver.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. This photography job of mine has given me so many unexpected gifts and being about to travel around the world and photograph dogs is a huge one.
Back to our Iceland trip: Audrey decided to fly to Charlotte to visit for a few days and then we flew to Iceland 5 days before the workshop.
We wanted to adjust to the time change and see the country. We of course also scheduled a photo shoot with a local dog trainer Doreen Ebelt who of course I found on Instagram.
This is Doreen’s water loving dog Floki. It is Iceland so it rained on our way to the shoot. Floki didn’t care and he got even more set when his mom tossed a stick into the pond. I’ve already posted 2 photos of him on my Instagram page using #wetdogwednesday. ha
After wandering around the capitol city of Reykjavik (yes I now know how to spell it without autocorrect), going on a day long guided tour, photographing horses at Icelandic Horseworld, and going on a 10pm-midnight boat tour to see the Northern Lights, we joined the workshop which was located near Vik.
The workshop included 4 photo shoots in some of south Iceland’s most scenic locations.
Now most of these locations I can’t pronounce even after they’re said to me multiple times. I kept telling Audrey I wanted to record her attempting to pronounce them because it was pretty entertaining.
Icelandic words have lots of consonants including k’s and r’s.
We photographed 14 Icelandic dogs. I will do another blog that will go into more detail about each of these photo shoots and locations when I’ve finished all of my Lightroom and Photoshop editing. I am still editing because I took around 6000 photos on this trip. I was there 12 days so I’m actually feeling pretty good about only taking 6000. Right?
Here is a sneak peek:
Yes, this was amazing. Yes I made memories that will last my lifetime. This is why I do this.
Do I want to go back? yes
Do I recommend you go? yes
So what questions do you have about Iceland? Lay them on me and I’ll try to answer what I can.

I love to travel. I’d love to photograph your dog some place you love.
