Bold colors is the theme for week 44 of the 52 week dog photography project and I'm in southern California! I'm in my happy place. I lived here from 2004 - 2007 and it's my favorite place in the world. I don't get back here as often as I like but when I do, I'm in heaven.

There isn't a leash to be seen... until this post. For most people looking at photos on my website, they probably think I'm photographing perfectly behaved, well-trained dogs that are all off-leash. I am not but I can understand why someone would think that.

The theme was announced at the end of last week on a day when I had a session scheduled so that night I was sure to take some shots with backlighting. My model Pearl was ready to call it quits at this point but I did ask her to pose a few more times because as the sun went down, it got prettier and prettier.
