4-Year Old Adopted Pitbull Mix is our Newest Family Member

Drumroll please….. let me introduce you to Jeff.

This 4 year old guy that we just adopted is our newest family member and I think he’s a pitbull mix.

He came with the name. My husband loves it so Jeff is going to be his name. I may be a little mad at the person at the rescue who decided to name him Jeff. ha

We have always been a 2 dog family and ever since Moose died, we’ve talked periodically about getting another dog.

My husband wanted a white lab so while I was in Iceland, he texted me a photo of a white lab-ish dog available for adoption. I told him to fill out the application and have the interview and if all went well, to take Molly to meet them.

I figured this process might take a while. It didn’t. The Charlotte SPCA got back to Don right away and within a few days, Don was taking Molly to meet Jeff.

The meeting went well and as soon as I got home from Iceland, we made an appointment for all of us to go and see Jeff.

The next day, I went and picked him up.

Jeff’s Gotcha Day is October 3. Moose’s Gotcha Day was October 2 and Molly’s birthday is October 20th. Don’s birthday is this month and so is my sister’s. October has become an eventful month for our family.

We don’t know much about him. We was picked up as a stray in another county in June. The Charlotte SPCA pulled him from that shelter and brought him to Charlotte and he was in a foster home for about a month. He was adopted out but returned because he was too much to handle. Since then, he’s been staying at a local doggie daycare.

This is what I’ve learned about him in a week:

  1. He is a character. He makes us laugh a lot.

  2. He’s a happy guy. I’ve not seen any signs of abuse or mistreatment.

  3. He is energetic and loves to chase the ball. He hops when he gets close to it. (that is going to be fun to photograph!) He has springs in his feet.

  4. In his previous life he was allowed on furniture. ALL the furniture. Going to bed at night can be a process because he jumps up on the bed with us. He has 3 dog beds and a dog couch that he can sleep on…. our bed is off limits. Teaching him this is taking some time.

  5. He learns quickly and is treat motivated! YAY

  6. He weighs 52 lbs.

I need to get him out for a proper photo session once he has a little training. He’s a bit wild on the leash but we are making progress.

Stay tuned but I wanted to introduce you to this little guy we just adopted that I think is a pitbull mix.

We will do an DNA test on him to determine exactly what he is but I think there is probably some pitbull in there somewhere!

What do you think of our newest family member? Do you think he’s a pitbull mix? Any other guesses?
