Black Dog Photos

In December I got an inquiry to photograph a black newfoundland / labrador mix named Chewy. His parents mentioned that they have a hard time getting photos of him because he has very dark fur and very dark eyes.

Getting great photos of any dogs can be a challenge. For you dog owners trying to do this with your phones, am I right or what?

Taking a great, frame worthy photo of a black dog can be really hard. Understanding lighting is the key.

I sent Chewy’s parents the Welcome Packet, a form to complete asking questions about Chewy like how they got him, how he got his name and some of their favorite features of his. We booked the session for just after the holidays.

We met on a beautiful January afternoon at a local south Charlotte / Matthews area park. They’d mentioned to me that he could be a little funny around other dogs so we went to a park that rarely has other dogs there.

Here are a few pictures of Chewy posing like a champ during his model debut:

I agree. Black dogs can be a challenge to photograph. Chewy had no formal modeling training but as you can see, he was a rock star and his pictures are gorgeous.
