Dogs and Hats

This is Luke. He’s a rescued lab/hound mix and he reminds me so much of my Moose, I fell in love with him immediately.

His fur is soft as velvet and his personality is soooo laid back. He will also let me do pretty much anything to him in exchange for belly rubs.

That’s where he is different from Moose. Moose wouldn’t sit here with this hat on his head. Luke will and I was going to say he doesn’t mind but the look on his face might say differently.

I promise he was treated well and rewarded for being the bestest boy.

I was hired for a commercial photography project and I knew Luke would be a great model so I asked his mom if she could meet me at the studio for an hour or so. I also knew I’d want to try a few ideas so I grabbed some of my own hats.

Perhaps he looks like he does here because he knows he’s wearing a woman’s hat? I guess I could have grabbed my husband’s Pittsburgh Steelers toboggan. Maybe he would’ve liked it better?

He also tolerates Christmas tree headbands. I should find some antlers.

And speaking of antlers, here’s a story that cracks me up every time I think of it.

6 years ago when we rescued Moose, my niece was at school at the University of South Carolina. I went to visit her right after we got him and she asked about him. We were sitting at a nice restaurant and she says to me, “How’s your new dog Antlers?” I have NO IDEA where Antlers came from but that’s what she called him. We laughed until we embarassed ourselves and I can’t hear the word “antlers” without thinking of Courtney. She’s also the one who flew to Charlotte from San Francisco, hopped in the car with Moose and me and drove to St Louis for a photo shoot with Dancers and Dogs. That’s Courtney. <3

Some may not be fans of dogs and hats but I am. There are some dog photographers that do these types of photos really well. Check out https://puptrait.com/paperhat-portraits/ and Sohpia Gamand’s flower crown photos: https://www.sophiegamand.com/flowerpower.
