WATER: Dog Photography 52 Week Project - Week 46
Water is the topic for our Dog Photography 52 Week Project this week and can I just say "yipee!" Water as our topic makes me happy because I just spent 15 days on the California coast and I have LOADS of photos with the Pacific Ocean in the background. If I hadn't spent 15 days in CA, this theme would've been a little more challenging to me. My apologies to those of you who don't have an ample supply of water to use as your backdrop regularly. I don't either and I am completely jealous of anyone who does.
If you've already seen Danyel's post with Wag To My Heart, you're not seeing double. We spent 5 days together in California and photographed the same dogs! :) Following are a series of photos from my first ever Retreats by BARKography. I'll blog about this in more detail once the dust has settled and I've gotten through the loads of emails in my inbox.
On my first full day in California and prior to the retreat starting, I went to the unofficial dog beach in Newport Beach. It was a Saturday so there were lots of dogs. The first dog I saw playing on the beach was the black lab pictured below. I got into photography because of my black lab named Buddy. I think this was his way of letting me know I was exactly where I was supposed to be. I also think it was vizsla meetup day. because there were 4 vizslas there chasing each other around.
I have a lot of other photos from this day but they're not edited yet. They're on my long list of things to do!
The following photos are from the official "retreat sessions." Most of them were at the beach. Here are some of my favorites that we took near the water and there will be more once I have time to edit. I had 2 private sessions prior to the retreat starting with 3 dogs. We had 4 sessions during the retreat that included 7 dogs and after the retreat officially ended we had 2 more sessions that included 3 dogs. In total, I had photo sessions with 13 dogs in 15 days.
One of my fears during the retreat is that we wouldn't have enough dogs to photograph. That wasn't a problem! I may have gone a bit overboard on dogs & sessions. :)
Southern CA is very dog friendly so of course I photographed random dogs I saw out and about too.
After the retreat ended, I headed to San Diego for 2 days to hang out with my friend Audrey Ricks of Sunsets Unleashed. We met at Barkelona and we've stayed in touch since. She took me to the MOST AMAZING DOG BEACH EVER. It's Ocean Beach and if I lived near, I think I'd be there every day. Here are a few shots from the 2 nights we went to the OB Dog Beach in San Diego.
I am so excited that I got to spend so much time near the water the past month. Don and I were in Hilton Head for a week in October and then I spent 15 days in southern California. Even though we are entering the dreary winter months, I've got an endless amount of photos with big blue sky and deep blue water to use on my Instagram page. That makes me happy because my Instagram page won't look so dreary.
This is a blog circle and next up is Darlene with Pant the Town Pet Photography serving MA and NH. Be sure to click the link at the bottom of each post to see what each photographer writes about our water topic this week.
