Charlotte's Newest Dog Water Park

Does your dog like to swim? If so, I just visited the mecca of dog swimming at DogWorld Dog Park in Kannapolis NC.

For those in the area wondering about the commute: It’s 30 miles from my house in the Southpark area in Charlotte. On a Saturday afternoon around 5pm, the drive was about 50 minutes. The traffic on both I-77 and I-85 was moving so I didn’t have any delays. During the week, I would expect more traffic so a little longer commute.

I was looking for a place to take photos of wet dogs shaking. I’m participating in a 6 month photography challenge through Unleashed Education and our topic is “Shake” and the shaking needed to include water. I figured a dog water park would be the place to be.

My goal at DogWorld was to take shake photos but there was a lot more running and playing going on than shaking so I ended up with a variety of photos.

Here’s a reel from my Instagram page I took before I started photographing the dogs:

The park is fabulous. Particularly for dogs that like water but the grounds are huge and it’s all fenced. Dogs that like playing with other dogs will have plenty to do even if they don’t prefer to be in the water.

The pool is huge and since the floor is on a gradual slope, the shallow end doesn’t have any water in it so it was perfect for standing in to take photos.

There are lots of other attractions for dogs but I didn’t get much of a chance to explore.

DogWorld is great place for outdoor adventures for dogs that like other dogs. From looking around on their website, I know they temperament test the dogs that come in. There weren’t any issues between any of the dogs while I was there which was great to see.

I am not an expert when it comes to pack mentality and large groups of dogs playing nicely together but if you have a dog that guard his toys or tennis balls, this might not be the place for him. There were tons of tennis balls around.

So many tennis balls that it’d be heaven for dogs that LOVE tennis balls. Henry, the chocolate lab that moved to Australia after I met him…. I thinking of you!!

I would love to go back! Maybe I’ll get to soon.

This is a blog circle and our topic this week is “outdoor adventures with your dog.” Up next in the circle is New England dog photographer Darlene Woodward of Pant the Town Photography shares tips for keeping your dog happy during this summer's road tripping adventures. Click the link and you’ll make your way around the circle and you’ll end up back here when you’re finished. These should be fun!

Who wants to see photos of dogs having fun?

PS For my photographer friends reading this, the lighting wasn’t ideal. As a photographer, I prefer to set up my shots based upon the lighting which was the sun in this case. We were in a large swimming pool and many of the photos were side lit. It was also sunnier than I’d prefer. I went as late as I could which was 6pm, an hour before they closed but that was still about 2.5 hours before sunset.
